The infusible options are Zweihander and Greatsword. So basically the somber ones are cool but most of them are pretty terrible. Maliketh's is okay for PvP as colossals go, though again being locked to a slow L2 is a tough sell, but positively insulting as a super-lategame reward right before all that is left in the playthrough is a gauntlet of bosses that massively resist Holy. Godslayer's does less damage, both physical and fire, than Blasphemous, despite being a colossal, and its L2 is unusable as of 1.10, a butterfly could blink in Taiwan and it will stagger you. Starscourge also tends to devolve into an L2 machine because its dual wield moveset is tragically disappointing. Ruins is a magic wand that casts LegallyDistinctFromBlasphemousBladeL2. Grafted is a magic wand that casts Endure+Godrick'sGreatRune and then goes back in the backpack, because Greatsword is just better. Unless you're Blaidd cosplaying, try just using a cold zwei with a better ash. Royal is decent, though it REALLY should always deal frost buildup, but co-op guys, I'm telling ya, you are not gonna hit the invader with that L2. Troll Knight's is an embarrassing disappointment, it looks so cool but a Cold or Magic Zweihander will lap it all day, and it is locked to a pretty bad L2, unlike Zwei, which can use the same L2 among countless others. Watchdog's is just worse than Greatsword in just about every way and Troll's is worse than all of them. Zweihander is lighter and has lower requirements, Greatsword is bigger and does more damage. And in Elden Ring we have four infusible options, which should really be considered just two. And Lorian's was the only truly redundant thing there was, it was quite similar to the Profaned GS, but a bit stronger and with higher requirements. Black Knight was a compelling reason to play quality, with its rocket launch 2HR2 and tricky-timing thrust 1HR2, not to mention the bonus damage to demons for PvE.

Lothric GS had massive innate lightning and was incredible on heavy, sharp, and lightning infusions, doing absurd damage if you managed to hit that full charged thrust. Farron had a completely unique playstyle and moveset, then RKPG came along and was similar in some respects, but still markedly different, with a unique L2, different L1s, and innate fire damage. Profaned had such low requirements that it could be wielded at level 1, and could buff itself, making it the best for low levels but still quite viable at high level quality. Similarly Cathedral GS also did strike and thrust, albeit with lower damage, but had less insane requirements than FUGS and could be infused, doing quite well on a Refined or elemental gem. Fume did Strike damage so despite its lower AR would often hit harder than Greatsword, blocks like a shield during Stomp, and has thrusts. Greatsword was your classic heavy infuse high damage high range smacker, no thrust attacks, none needed. Astora greatsword was incredibly light and uniquely good in dex, int, fth, and luck infusions, and had Charge on L2, making it drastically different from the other UGs. Note: "Gugs" = GreatswordĭS3 ultra greatswords: Zweihander was your baseline, great moveset, thrust attacks, low stamina costs, does fine with basically any infusion, relatively low weight and requirements. Note: As of Patch 1.08, the Speed of Crouching and Rolling Attack has been slightly increased Colossal Swords typically require very high Strength to wield properly- if the player falls a few points short of the requirements, wielding them two-handed can compensate for this.Ĭolossal Swords are compatible with a range of different Ashes of War, allowing you to mix and match for whatever your needs may be. While they are extremely heavy and swing much slower than other swords, they make up for it with a long reach and massive damage output. As their name implies, Colossal Swords are oversized swords, with lengths often exceeding the height of the Tarnished themselves. Colossal Swords replace Ultra Greatswords from the Souls series. Colossal Swords are a type of Weapon in Elden Ring ( not to be confused with Colossal Weapons).
